Weekly Devotional – 2010 The Red Thread Series
A wonderful “Red Thread” of salvation runs throughout the Bible, and each week we are looking at a different book of the Bible to see that Thread that leads to Jesus and God's perfect plan for redeeming mankind to Himself.
MAY - WEEK ONE
Book of the Bible: Ecclesiastes Theme of the Book: Humanity's Cry for a SAVIOUR
(Quote from Halley’s Bible Handbook, p.275)
Main Character(s): Solomon The “Red Thread”: Solomon experienced all that life offered, but was found wanting. In the end, he recognized that without the "Shepherd" (Eccl. 12:11), who we are told is Jesus (Hebrews 13:20), he had no hope.
Key Verses: Ecclesiastes 1:2 and Ecclesiastes 12:13-14
'Vanity of vanities', says the Preacher, 'Vanity of vanities! All is vanity.'
The conclusion, when all has been heard, is: fear God and keep His commandments, because this applies to every person. For God will bring every act to judgment. everything which is hidden, whether it is good or bad.
APPLICATION: Solomon experienced many opportunities and temptations. He recognized that all these pursuits yielded "vanity." Solomon gives us many warnings and lessons.
- What have I been pursuing that has yielded only frustration and vanity?
- What am I willing to do about this empty pursuit?
- Will you call out to the Great Shepherd in confession and faith and pursue Him instead?
