Weekly Devotional – 2010 The Red Thread Series
A wonderful “Red Thread” of salvation runs throughout the Bible, and each week we are looking at a different book of the Bible to see that Thread that leads to Jesus and God's perfect plan for redeeming mankind to Himself.
MAY - WEEK THREE
Book of the Bible: Isaiah Theme of the Book: This Prophetic book introduces us to the Suffering Servant; prophesies the First and Second coming of Christ and Salvation through Jesus. Main Character(s): Isaiah The “Red Thread”: Prophetic passages that depict Jesus as the Suffering Servant who will justify many.
Key Verses: Isaiah 53:3-5
He was despised and forsaken of men, A man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; And like one from whom men hide their face He was despised, and we did not esteem Him. Surely our griefs He Himself bore, And our sorrows He carried; Yet we ourselves esteemed Him stricken, Smitten of God, and afflicted. But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, And by His scourging we are healed.
APPLICATION: Isaiah prophesied before at least 4 kings of Judah. Hezekiah would listen to Isaiah and God would give Judah a reprieve from Assyrian attack. (2 Kings 18:4, 22) The Bible's Prophetic Books teach us to listen to wise counsel.
- Am I listening to godly Elders and Pastors who expose Truth from Error Biblically?
- How hungry am I in learning true Biblical wisdom and knowledge, and applying it to my life?
- Is the Bible my "Go-To" manual for living?
